The Arc is honored that the Knights of Joseph J. Burn Council 3227 of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Anniston and Council 13513 of St. Charles Catholic Church of Jacksonville have chosen our agency to be the local recipients of the annual Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive, which benefits people with intellectual disabilities.
Each Columbus Day Weekend, from Friday morning to Monday evening, members of the Knights of Columbus, The Arc staff and about 300 volunteers from area high schools and area civic groups stand at participating retail outlets exchanging Tootsie Roll Candy for a donation of any size to the drive.
Money raised through this effort goes to support The Arc’s summer day camp for children with intellectual disabilities, fittingly known as the Knights’ Camp, and other therapeutic programs of The Arc.
The Arc and the Knights of Columbus invite anyone who sees the benefit of these programs as we do to join us in this October fundraiser. Shifts last two hours, and high school volunteers who participate are eligible to be excused from school for a day each Spring to help with the Special Olympics Athletics Program.
